About
Hi Everyone,
My name is Scott Randall and I am a retired civil servant having spent 32 years working for the Dept of the Navy. I enjoy music (and try to play the acoustic guitar), golf, skiing, travel, and most recently photography. Although I have “dabbled” in taking pictures over the years, I have recently gotten a little more into it and bought my first DSLR – a Nikon D7000. Over the past month or two I started sending Pictures of the Day to various friends and the distribution list began to grow. My wife and I also recently returned from a month in South America so we have many pictures to share. A photoblog seemed to be a logical answer. This is my first attempt at blogging so please bear with me as I “learn the ropes”. I hope you enjoy and I look forward to any feedback you may have on the blog, my photography, or anything else that may strike your fancy.

Good to “see” you!

Hi Cathy,
This is all your doing so I had to complete my profile….thanks again.
June 28, 2011 at 1:15 pm
Scott, I found your blog through Patti and my first thought as I scrolled down the front page was, ” Oh cool, another professional photographer’s page.” If this is “dabbling” I can’t wait to see what happens when you get good at it!

Dounia, Sorry for two things – 1) that is has taken me this long to reply to you, and 2) even though I appreciate your thoughtfulness for this nomination, I hope you don’t mind if I don’t “play” for this one after just finishing the Kreativ blogger response. I’m not sure what I would add to that response or what different people I would nominate. Again, I appreciate your nomination and hope we continue to converse over our blogs. Take care, Scott
February 23, 2012 at 1:45 pm
I completely understand, so please don’t worry about it at all!
I just hope that my post will bring other people to your blog as your photos are absolutely incredible. I always look forward to seeing your new photos! I also hope we can continue to converse on our blogs – I look forward to future comments and to more beautiful photography!

Hi Scott – thanks for your comments about my series, “My Day With A Lion Pride.” It was a fantastic trip! I went to Tanzania and the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Caldera, and Tangiere National Parks. A fabulous trip. We saw everything! Where did you go in Africa?
~Anne

Anne – we went to South Africa both times. Once to the private Madikwe preserve and once to Kruger National Park.

Great blog and wonderful photos. I use a D5000 and D2X (trying sell it so I can get the 7000 or 300s). I’ve heard wonderful things about the D7000. Love your pronghorn portrait shot. We get a lot of them around the region of Co that I live in.
June 5, 2012 at 9:46 am
Crystal – Thank you for your comments! Especially appreciated from such an accomplished photographer. Your horse portraits are great! You are lucky to live in Colorado – always one of my favorite places to visit and photograph.
June 5, 2012 at 11:07 am
Why thank you. Believe it or not I am a beginner. I started getting into photography about 3-4years ago when I first found out about there still being Wild Horses in Co. I am one of the lucky few natives.
June 5, 2012 at 11:23 am
Crystal – must be an affinity between beginners (I started about a year ago) – and Nikon shooters, of course! OBTW, I really like the D7000 but then again, I don’t have a lot (other than the 5100) to compare it to.
June 5, 2012 at 11:45 am
I had an Olympus before my Nikon and I hated it. Very happy with both my Nikon’s and four lens’s. Just wish I had a 500mm for photographing wild life.
June 5, 2012 at 11:49 am
Yup – my 150-500mm Sigma gets a lot of use for the stuff I normally take. Not very good in low light but pretty sharp for daytime shooting – and not all that expensive.
June 5, 2012 at 11:52 am
I’ve had several photography friends recommend the Sigma if I can’t get the Nikkor one. Another one on my wish list is a good Macro lens.

Greetings from a fellow nature & landscape photographer/blogger/vlogger.

Allison – welcome! Thats a great fawn picture you got!
June 6, 2012 at 6:59 am
Hi there! This is just to let you know that because I regularly enjoy your posts, I’ve nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award. I hope you’ll consider this good news – but even if you aren’t interested in accepting, I hope you may see some increased traffic as a result! The acceptance rules are at: http://theretiringsort.com/2012/06/14/in-accordance-with-award-rules-the-nominees-are/
All the best!
June 14, 2012 at 8:30 pm
RS – thank you – I appreciate the interest. I hope you don’t mind if I decline the honor – but I do appreciate the nomination!
June 25, 2012 at 9:02 pm
I don’t mind at all – here’s hoping the nomination got you a little new visibility, though!
June 26, 2012 at 5:58 am
Yeah Scott – I kinda wasn’t sure if you’d like it or not. I also nominated you for one – it is a lot of work. I don’t think you should have to copy and paste stuff just because someone wanted to honor you. I still did it, but you don’t have to comply with any of it. Like ‘The Retiring Sort’ said – more visibility! http://blog.caroldunniganphotography.com/2012/07/12/beautiful-blogger-award/
July 12, 2012 at 10:22 am
Thanks Carol – I do appreciate the exposure and the fact that folks appreciate the blog. Its just that I think I need to focus on the content of my blog for now…. Thanks again for your recommendation!
July 14, 2012 at 9:39 pm

Scott,
I love your photos. I’m working on a poster for a school project and would really like your permission to use one of these pieces of art. It’s of course a non-profit project and would be displayed at my university. Please let me know if you’d be ok with that. You can contact me through email for more information or here.
Thanks,
Skyler
