Crows! Chasing Raptors?

Until I started taking photographs again a few months back, I had always enjoyed watching raptors go about their business and soaring in the wind.  As I started to photograph them and become more familiar with their environment and behaviors, I noticed that they have an interesting relationship to the common crows – and that they don’t appear to always have the upper hand…..

Close pursuit on a red tailed hawk

This first one was taken in the canyon behind our house with a crow obviously chasing a red tailed hawk.  I have seen this scene recreated several more times and I have read that it is not uncommon for several crows to “gang up” on the larger predators – though this was a single crow.  The second shot is similar but it is of an Osprey  being chased from the vicinity of a crow’s nest – pretty fearless against a much larger bird with lots of sharp, pointy weapons….
