Weekly Photo Challenge: Hidden (#2)

This is the first time I’ve submitted more than one entry into a challenge.  I was looking at Maggie’s great entry at  and it reminded me of one of my Alaska pictures that fits this challenge perfectly…..

Like an iceberg - 95% below the surface

Believe it or not, that is a full grown grizzly (brown) bear.  He is underwater searching for salmon.  I like the shot because it leaves SO much for the imagination.

  1. Perfectly hidden or so he thinks. I guess it is the salmon that are truly hidden. I love the way you have captured the water disturbance as he moves.

  3. This is neat. This reminds me of a picture I took of an alligator in the water and all you could see were it’s eyes sticking out from the water.

    • We were watching this very friendly bear for close to an hour. He was doing all kinds of things but every once in a while he would submerge with just the top of his head showing. I was lucky enough to time it right to get just his ears and his “bow wave” 🙂

    • Gracie, We guessed that he was about 800 lbs. He caught numerous salmon as we watched him so he was adding to that bulk.
