One of the most incredible things about scuba diving is finding something you haven’t seen before (and it happens a lot). The creature may be very large or very small and they may or may not have some really notable feature. This little fella is very small (probably 2-3 inches across its “wingspan”), hard to find (they hide and protect themselves in the “branches” of some types of hard coral), and I think you will agree that it is notable in the red polka dots and bright yellow and green eyes. Meet the red-spotted coral crab. I might also say that they are very hard to photograph – between getting a good look at them with the camera, you also have to find an avenue so that the flash will reach them – normally while you are somewhat upside down and hanging onto a rock to keep you from being swept away by the current. I probably took 30 different photos of these guys trying to get a good shot. I was really pleased to see that this one is pretty good – Hope you enjoy it!
