Shrimp anyone?

Okay there’s not much meat on these guys.  These are banded shrimp – they are an inch or two across and seem to be all arms, legs, and antennae.  You normally find them under rocks or coral ledges.  The best way to find them is to look for the antennae sticking out from virtually any crevice.  Then the trick is finding a way to cram your camera and flash in to catch them.

Named for the bands around his claws

This second shot was interesting because it is pretty obvious that the shrimp on the right is “with child”.

Soon to be mama

  2. More amazing shots from under the sea, and as I’ve said, you wont’ get me down there; I’m quite content to do it through your eyes.

  4. From the waves and light it seems quite a shallow place where these shrims live. 10 feet deep max?

    • Actually, the light is deceiving as it is all from the strobe. The picture with the 2 shrimp was taken at night in about 40 feet of water. The single shrimp was at about 60 feet.
