Geometry (again) and a Sunday vsit….

Given Fridays photo challenge on geometry and that it is Sunday, I thought I’d share another photo of a European cathedral.  This was one of my favorites of the multitude of cathedrals and churches we saw in Southern Europe a few weeks back.  This is the cathedral in Monaco which is very near the palace on the hill overlooking the city.  The thing that differentiates this Cathedral for me is that although it is based on Gothic architecture, it is very clean and understated in a more modern way.  This is a view up toward the main Rotunda showing the mural there.

Incredible art and architecture

I would encourage you to click the photo to examine the details of the artwork – especially the figures below the main mural – which I believe are the apostles.

  1. Definitely incredible, Scott! I love the lines and shapes of iconography. They are always very compelling. Thanks!

    • Thanks Cathy! They are each amazing in their own way. I have a bunch of photos that I’ll post of the Segrada Familia in Barcelona that I’ll post soon. That is an incredible work of art in process but I don’t think there is any way to really do it justice.

      • I understand! We can only capture glimpses of such great works. Still, they capture the imagination and lift our spirits. I look forward to the post. Thanks again!

  2. Exquisite. There’s sort of an optical trick of the eye. I can see it curving out as well as in.

    • Cathy – might be time to go see an optometrist…
