Weekly Photo Challenge: Relax

When I saw the subject of this week’s challenge, I thought of many photos but ended up choosing this one from a 2012 trip to Alaska.  We had just landed and set up camp for a week with the Brown Bears in the Katmai.  We took a short walk from our camp and watched as some of the bears grazed in the field.  We eventually followed this bear as he made his way to the stream, plopped down, and immediately dozed off.  He didn’t seem to mind at all that the 5 of us were nearby clicking away with our cameras – He was much too relaxed to care…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Dreaming – of better days

Found another photo for the challenge this week while waiting for our airplane back to San Diego – with a back story.  We wandered upon this snoozy male on one of our first walks around Hallo Bay.  He was snoozing here but we had seen him the evening we arrived trying to chase a female – to no avail as his right front paw was either broken or at least badly injured.  Our guide told us that he had a fight with another male the day before and suffered that injury.  We saw him occasionally during the week and he appeared to be walking better as the week went on but it was still very questionable whether he would be able to survive.  In any case, he was resting comfortably here and hopefully dreaming of his days to come……

Wishing the best for the “dreamer”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Dreaming

Hi everyone!  I’m actually still in Alaska (long story I’ll save for next week) but have connectivity back!  When I saw the challenge subject thought I’d better take the time to submit one of the photos from the trip.  This was actually one of the first photos that I took upon arrival in Hallo Bay, Alaska.  This young lady was just snoozing away looking very comfortable in the sand.  I sure she’s dreaming of the coming Salmon run or some other subject of importance to Brown Bears.  This will be the first of my Bear series – Many more to come.  Hope you enjoy!
